Hip Replacement

HIP ABDUCTION – STANDING

While standing, raise your leg out to the side. Keep your knee straight and maintain your toes pointed forward the entire time. Use your arms for support if needed for balance and safety.

HIP FLEXION – STANDING

While standing on one leg, lift your other leg forward with a straight knee as shown. Return to starting position and repeat. Use your arms for support if needed for balance and safety.

HIP EXTENSION – STANDING

While standing, balance on one leg and move your other leg in a backward direction. Do not swing the leg. Perform smooth and controlled movements. Keep your trunk stable and without arching during the movement. Use your arms for support if needed for balance and safety.

Knee Replacement:

HEEL SLIDES

Lying on your back with knees straight, slide the affected heel towards your buttock as you bend your knee. Hold a gentle stretch in this position and then return to original position.

KNEE FLEXION - SELF ASSISTED

Lying on your back with knees straight, slide the affected heel towards your buttock as you bend your knee. Use the unaffected leg to assist the bending. Hold a gentle stretch in this position and then return to original position.

SEATED HEEL SLIDES

While in a seated position and foot forward and rested on the floor, slowly slide your foot closer towards you. Hold a gentle stretch and then return foot forward to original position.

SEATED KNEE FLEXION STRETCH SCOOT

While in a seated position, slides your foot back to a bent knee position. Keep your foot planted on the ground and scoot forward until a stretch is felt at the knee.

SEATED HAMSTRING STRETCH

While seated, rest your heel on the floor with your knee straight and gently lean forward until a stretch is felt behind your knee/thigh.

HAMSTRING STRETCH - SITTING

While sitting with your leg stretched out, reach forward with your hands towards touching your toes.
