Hip Hemiarthroplasty

Hip hemiarthroplasty or partial hip replacement is a surgery in which only the ball portion of the hip joint is replaced. Hip arthroplasty is mostly reserved for patients with hip fracture, especially those with low functional demands.

Below are before (left) and after (right) X-rays of an 80-year-old female who fractured her left hip from a fall on ice. She underwent a hip hemiarthroplasty using a cementless (press-fit) stem. The patient was able to bear weight immediately after surgery.

Below are before (left) and after (right) X-rays of an 88-year-old male who presented with a left femoral neck fracture from a fall at home. He was treated with a hemiarthroplasty using a cementless (press-fit) stem. The patient was able to bear weight immediately after surgery.

Below are before (left) and after (right) X-rays of a 79-year-old male who presented with a pathologic left femoral neck fracture from metastatic cancer. He had significant osteopenia (decreased bone mineral density) and was treated with a hemiarthroplasty using a cemented stem. The patient was able to bear weight immediately after surgery.
